Fifth Avenue Apple Store Opening

Posted on May 20, 2006

New Apple Store

So we went down to see the opening of Apple's new store at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street only to find (unsurprisingly) a queue about 5 or 6 blocks long. The queue really wasn't moving so we gave up and had a look at the cube which looks great, especially at night. There had been rumours of live bands at the opening and apparently Job's himself was 'in and out' but I certainly wasn't going to queue just to see Steve Jobs. There was cheering outside but that turned out to be for people exiting (and therefore letting someone else in). Actually, we couldn't really figure out why people were queuing at all. The chances of winning a free MacBook were pretty slim and I think the only freebies were a couple of thousand t-shirts which would, for most people, have been long gone. People exiting the shop were being cheered loudly by everyone waiting in the front of the queue.
